Linda Berberick

(Clay, Mirrors & Clocks with MDF)

Although my expression in art has changed throughout my life, it has always had a presence.  For 23 years my artist studio was at ‘Hair Concept’ where I was a hair stylist.  I loved stretching the limits and exploring the various styles of the times from punk to wedge and mullet to prom.   My teenage twin boys and the rest of the football team were up for anything so I shaved their initials and did wild ‘dos’ for the games.

When I finished raising my three children I began studying art.  I took my first class at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas in my mid 50’s.  In 1996 I moved to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where I was first introduced to clay.

I took various classes at the Institudo Allende  and Escuela de Bellas Artes (School of Fine Arts) where I explored weaving, mosaic, and paper mache.  Having the opportunity to work under Jesus at the Institudo Allende inspired me because sculpting faces came so natural.   In 1998 I enrolled at Boise State University where I continued to discover my own unique talents.  I am a work in progress.

My son Steven came to live with my husband and I in 2001 in Boise, Idaho because he had a terminal illness which required constant care.  In the quietness of our days I would sculpt as a way to process all of the emotions for which there were no words, only expressions of texture, color, and organic shapes.   After passing in 2005 the Steven & Dennis Bane Foundation was created as a non-profit organization that provides free art services to critically-ill individuals who are homebound or residing in hospitals, hospices or nursing care facilities.
