Kelly Packer

(Painting & Drawing)

Kelly Packer is an artist and web designer living in Boise, Idaho.

She was born in Kalispell, Montana and grew up in the Missoula Valley amongst yellow grasses and peeling paint. Her first job was at Kentucky Fried Chicken and this taught her to love the smell of grease and artistic floor-mopping techniques. While attending school at the University of Montana, she spent summers in Yellowstone & Yosemite National Park. These were to be magical, pivotal summers for the young artist. After she returned to Missoula, she attended a poetry reading where she met the poet Adrian Kien. In 2003, she received her BFA from the University of Montana with an emphasis in painting and a minor in media arts.

The following year the couple moved to Boise, Idaho so Adrian could attend graduate school in creative writing at Boise State University. Kelly began a prolific exploration of saints and self-portraiture in her basement studio, joined Boise Open Studios Collective Organization and showed her work at the Gallery at Hyde Park.

In August of 2007, they traveled to Chambery, France to live and work until May 2008. In between eating pounds of cheese and buying wine by the gallon, Kelly did a lot of drawing. She opened up a store, www.kellypacker.etsy.com and sold many drawings of French cityscapes and cows.

The couple then moved back to Boise, where Kelly got a job as a web and graphic designer at Creative Soapbox. In 2009, both Kelly and Adrian were awarded Artist-in-Residence at the 8th Street Marketplace in downtown Boise.
